A colleague of Carter Hall brings a mask that was found on Mount Olympus that is fabled to have been created by Vulcan himself. However, the mask soon takes control of Paul and attacks Cater before making an escape. Carter is later revived by Shiera and both go after the mask as Hawkman and Hawkgirl. They find that it's taken Paul back to Greece, where archeologists have uncovered a giant metal statue. The mask has come seeking this body out, and despite opposition from Hawkman and Hawkgirl, succeeds in doing so. The giant statue then comes to life and begins terrorizing a small town. Hawkman and Hawkgirl (with Paul's help) deduce that the case in which the mask was found neutralizes the masks power. They use it to subdue the mask and remove it from the giant body. Afterwards it's brought back to Midway Museum where Paul reveals the mask once a day for a minute so that the public can enjoy the mask, and that it may not risk taking control of anyone again.
